URL Structure
A URL, or Uniform Resource Locator, is essentially the web address visitors type in to get to your website. It is important to consider your page names so they work and operate in a uniformed way, as is the theme in this eBook, this is another thing the search engines like to see. It makes life easier for the bots that crawl over your website to correctly list and rank it.
Here are some basic rules to stick to when naming pages:
- Hyphens should be used if word separation is required (not underscores, spaces or any other character).
- Overusing hyphens can have the reverse effect. Limit page names to 3-5 words maximum.
- Make the page name identify with the content or topic of the page.
- Humanise page names, make it so it is immediately obvious what the page will be about without visiting it.
